Legend Casino in Toppenish Begins 90 Million Dollar Renovation

Posted: Updated:
TOPPENISH, Wa.- Construction began today on a 90 million dollar renovation set to expand the Toppenish hot spot, Legends Casino. Officials at the casino say this renovation will help increase employment and drive more tourism into the community.

"Gaming travelers will now have the ability to stay at our hotel, do a little gambling, and also enjoy the other local tourist options Yakima has to offer," said Assistant Manager Kristin Lumley.

The renovation will expand the casino in hopes of creating a destination resort, with a 6 story 200 room hotel for guests, a full spa, restaurants, and new gaming centers.

"Hopefully we'll be considered at some point part of a destination resort and offer tourists to the wine industry to support the local economy here," said Delano Saluskin, chairman of the economy department at Legends Casino.

Officials say this expansion will also create new job opportunities throughout the area. Over 200 new positions are estimated to be needed once renovations are completed.

"We hope it will have a positive impact on the Yakima employment statistics overall and also for our tribal members here in the area," said Kristin Lumley.

Tribe members on the board remain excited for this new stepping stone. Their goal is to diversify their economy and to maximize the return of the property that they have in the Yakima valley.
