YAKIMA, WA - The Yakima School District Superintendent Dr. Elaine Beraza has announced she'll retire at the end of the upcoming school year.  Here's a copy of the news release from the district.

This morning, Friday, August 15, the Yakima School District Board of Directors accepted the Superintendent’s formal notification of retirement effective the end of the 2014-15 school year.  Dr. Elaine Beraza is entering her 46th year in education, her sixth with the Yakima School District.

In her letter to the school board, Dr. Beraza states, “I have had the privilege and good fortune to work with a progressive and supportive Board of Directors, a knowledgeable, highly professional, student-centered administrative team, and a dedicated, collaborative group of teachers and staff who have the best interest of students at the top of their agendas.  The tremendous level of business and community support in Yakima has been especially meaningful to me.”

A superintendent’s job is multi-faceted and Dr. Beraza has done a tremendous job of balancing all aspects expected of her, while keeping in mind that all decisions should be made through the lens of what is in the best interests of children.

In the summary of her spring 2014 evaluation, Board President Martha Rice shared, “We are pleased that Dr. Beraza is part of our team.  She is an outstanding, insightful and dedicated educational leader.  The Yakima School District, its staff and our students are fortunate to have her at our helm.”
