WEST RICHLAND, WA - A man is behind bars after leading officers on a car chase Friday night.
West Richland police say Paul Hess, 33 of Richland fled after hitting a car near the Walmart off Queensgate Drive, around 8:10 p.m.
Police say witnesses followed Hess, who was driving a white Chevy Blazer, as he went westbound on I-182 to westbound I-82.
Witnesses then followed him to the Benton City exit where Hess turned his car around and drove back eastbound on Kennedy Road; witnesses told police he had a flat tire at that time.
That is when West Richland police caught up with him. They say he failed to stop for police lights and sirens. Richland police arrived to assist and threw a spike strip in front of the car, which deflated the other front tire.
Police say Hess continued driving on the front rims of the car until they failed on Kennedy Road, just short of Keene Road. Hess was arrested and booked into the Benton County Jail for hit and run, D.U.I. and Felony Eluding.
