YAKIMA, Wa.- The Yakima Tennis Club hosted over four hundred young men and woman who gathered for the Pacific Northwest Junior Tennis Competition.
This championship is one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest. The best of the best come from all over Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and even Alaska.
Players competed in singles or doubles, in five different age groups.
KNDO spoke with Paiton Wagner, a teen competing in the tournament from Selah High School, who told us she’s been playing tennis since she was little, but that the best part is working as your own team out on the court.
“The best part of playing is the competition and being yourself, you're relying on yourself to pull off a match,” Paiton told us.
A ceremony for the finalists and winners will be held tomorrow, naming those who have been ranked nationally for 2014.
Event directors told KNDO that championships like this are an excellent way to help grow the sport in the Pacific Northwest and showcase the next generation of tennis talent.
