2014 Miss Yakima County Pageant

YAKIMA, WA.- The 4th Street Theater hosted The Miss Yakima pageant on Sunday.

In the past pageantry has had some negative views attached to it,  but these young women say they're working toward creating a better community.

Each young woman has a foundation they support and work to make better during their year as title holder.

These organizations range from breast cancer awareness, helping those with disabilities  and working with abused animals. Many of these girls go on to universities, taking the passion for the organizations they support with them.

"The Miss America organization is the biggest funders of scholarships to women in the world, so just being in this pageant I've seen girls fund their ways through college," Julissa Peart, the 2014 title holder told KNDO.

On Sunday the girls competing got the chance to showcase their talents. There was singing, dancing, and even an aerial acrobatics demonstration.

The pageant wrapped up around 7 p.m. To find winners or learn more on how you can get involved, click here.
