KENNEWICK, WA- The planning commission will make a recommendation to the city council about retailers selling marijuana in Kennewick.

The planning commission held a public hearing Monday evening to review the ordinance the city attorney has prepared for recreational marijuana sales in Kennewick.

The ordinance would change the current zoning code that is in place in Kennewick.  The city has been approved for up to four marijuana retailers but, none have received state licenses to open.  Retailers can get licensed but must get approval from cities to sell.

Pasco has banned the sale of recreational marijuana.  Richland and West Richland have not yet decided.

“The City Council is who makes the final determination and the recommendation from the planning commission, and they'll consider that in determining their outcome,” said Evelyn Lusignan of the City Hall in Kennewick.

The public voiced their opinions Monday before the planning commission made their recommendation.  That recommendation will then go to the city council and they will make the final decision.

The public will have another chance to voice their opinions before City Council decides at the September 2nd meeting at 6:30 p.m.
