Local Boat Company Adds Buoys, Swimming Boundaries at Howard Amon Park Dock

RICHLAND, WA. - A local boat rental company is stepping up to help make the boat dock at Howard Amon Park a safer place.

Columbia River Rental employees on Wednesday spent the afternoon placing buoys and swimming boundary lines around the dock near the end of Lee Boulevard. The boundaries will help keep swimmer's out of harms way while the buoys will remind boaters to go "wake-speed" within 200 feet of the swimming area.

"I don't think a lot of parents realize the dangers associated with letting their kids swim next to boats. The boaters are trying to dock their boats and families are letting their kids jump in front of that boat. You can potentially lose your kid," said Nigel Jourdain, Columbia River Rentals.

Jourdain says they also plan to install upgrades at other swimming docks in the area.
