Drive-By Shooting Injures Man Walking in Broad Daylight

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- There have only been a few violent crimes in the Yakima Valley this summer and one of them happened Tuesday in broad daylight.

right around 4 o'clock in the afternoon.

A drive by shooting occurred in Toppenish as someone walked on the side of Larue Road. A 24-year-old man says a dark colored four door car shot at him four times, hitting him once in the leg when he was walking near the intersection of Larue and Casey Road.

The victim hid in the bushes and called some friends to come pick him up after the car sped off. I talked to a neighbor less than a mile away from where the shooting occurred. She was surprised to hear about the incident so close to her home.

"I was kind of shocked," Jasmin Cervantes said. "You know nothing obviously really happens out here, it's really quiet and I don't know it's just not normal to hear something like that. I don't know, it's kind of scary."

Right now the Sheriff's Office doesn't know if this case is gang related but didn't rule out that as a possibility. The victims injures are described as non-life threatening.

the only information the sheriff's office has at this moment is that there were possibly three hispanic males in the car.

if you have any information please call the yakima county sheriff's office.

KENNEWICK: Good news for all of you bargain shoppers out there, Goodwill is opening a brand new store in Kennewick sometime next year. Thanks to a 3.1 million dollar loan and lots of planning, a very large patch of dirt will be home to a 20,000 square foot Goodwill; half warehouse and processing, half retail. The Kennewick store will be closing, however. You can still say, out with your old couches, TV's and clothing, and *into someone else's hands, just at a different location. ...More >>
