YAKIMA, WA. -- The State Department of Ecology has finalized plans to move their offices out of downtown Yakima. The department is planning to build a brand new building in Union Gap this fall.
The new building will be more energy efficient and smaller than their current space. Regional Director Tom Tebb says it won't be easy to say goodbye to Yakima.
"Well I feel like there's some mixed emotion," Tebb said. "There's some bittersweetness. The City of Yakima has been really really good to us but we're also thinking about our long term mission and where we need to be."
The new location will be at the corner of Ahtanum Road and Longfibre Avenue. They expect to break ground on the new site sometime in late October.
