ELLENSBURG, WA-- It is that time of year again when the Ellensburg Police Department gets to help raise funds for the Special Olympics of Washington through their annual Cop on Top fundraiser.

Captain Dan Hansberry of the Ellensburg Police department will be hanging out on top of the Fred Meyer in Ellensburg Thursday through Friday as he raises money and awareness for local Special Olympics of Washington programs and athletes.

He will spend 24-hours on the roof to raise the money.  In the past two years, they have raised about $9,000.00 through this event.

There is a raffle going to too, spend $1.00 on a ticket for a chance to win a $100.00 gift card to Fred Meyer. Tickets can be purchased at the Ellensburg Police Department in the front office or during the Cop on Top event. Proceeds from that will also go to the Special Olympics of Washington.

All money raised during the fundraiser will pay for the fees and expenses the disabled athletes have to pay to participate in Special Olympics events.

Right now there are more than 9,000 Special Olympics athletes in the state who benefit from events like Cop on Top, Polar Plunge and Tip a Cop.
