Heroin and Meth Continues To Be A Problem In Yakima

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- Heroin and meth use continues to be a problem in the Yakima area.

Officers say in the past year, the majority of drug offenses have been related to heroin and meth, use and possession.

They say these drugs are relatively cheap in comparison to other drugs like cocaine, so we asked if the legalization of pot has caused people to be more prone to try these more dangerous drugs.

Mike Russell with the Yakima Sheriff's Office told us, "We have a culture that likes to push the envelope so I don't know if legalizing weed will make it worse but even if we legalized cocaine or meth there would be people who just keep pushing those limits with drugs."

With an increase in overdoses and possession charges, the sheriffs department says they'll be launching several investigations in hopes of finding where this problem is stemming from.
