YAKIMA, WA.- As summer draws to a close the public swimming pools have been packed with people, but today the Franklin pool in Yakima opened its doors to some unique guests.

The Franklin pool invited pet lovers and their furry companions in for an afternoon of fun. it's the events 8th year and they had over 100 dogs come visit today.

Organizers for the event say it's a great way for dog owners to meet others in the community with the same love of animals.

"It's just so much fun for both the people and the dogs, there are almost as many people on the outside of the fence just watching as there are on the inside," recreation supervisor Traci Bennett told us.

Staff at Paws in the Pool say they teamed up with the Humane Society and Wags to Riches this year to help bring awareness about good pet ownership and abuse towards animals.

the event wrapped up around four today, the pool is now closed for the summer but organizers say they're looking forward to next year.
