The VA Provides Full Coverage for Veterans With ALS

PASCO, WA- The military provides full coverage for veterans diagnosed with ALS.

ALS has been getting a lot of attention from the Ice Bucket Challenge, but many veterans do not know the military covers them if they have the disease.

Veterans can get full coverage of all medical expenses and can get money from the Department of Veterans Affairs if they have ALS.  Spouses of deceased veterans with the disease can benefit too if they complete the paper work.

Retired veteran and Veteran Service Representative Stephen Prince said getting that information out to veterans is difficult because many do not learn about the benefits.

“When we get out of the military, like the Vietnam Era, we were told, ‘you can hang around and listen to your benefits or you can go home,' well guess what, I'm out of here,” said Prince.

Prince has already helped three veterans with ALS get coverage this year and predicts he will start seeing more.

Prince's office is in the Goodwill building in Pasco and all his services are free.  He can be reached at 509-460-4703.
