UPDATE:Troopers Believe Same Man Involved in Car Jacking, Stabbing

UPDATE / ONTARIO, OR - The Washington State Patrol says troopers believe the man who stabbed a semi-truck driver in Oregon, also carjacked a woman in the Tri-Cities the night before.

Oregon State Police arrested 28-year-old Dustin Rotter on Monday on attempted murder charges. Police say he rammed a stolen Buick LaCrosse into the semi, before he attacked the driver.

The Washington State Patrol interviewed the owner of the Buick on Wednesday. Troopers say she identified Rotter as the man who stole her car.

UPDATE / ONTARIO, OR - The Malheur County Correctional Facility has identified the man who Oregon State Police arrested on Monday in connection with a stabbing. 

28-year-old Dustin Rotter faces several charges including attempted murder, first degree assault, reckless endangering, reckless driving, and criminal mischief. Police say he was driving a Buick LaCrosse that was the one stolen in carjacking in Pasco Sunday night, when he got out and attacked a truck driver on Interstate 84 west of Ontario.Rotter appeared in court Tuesday, his bail is set at $230,000.

OSP says Rotter's last known address was in Modesto, California.

Troopers say the woman whose car was stolen is lucky she was not injured.

"The best advice we can give to people is exercise some caution. It's easy to say that she shouldn't have stopped to help but a lot of us want to help when we can, maybe the best idea in this situation would have been to call 911," Lt. Tom Foster, Washington State Patrol, said.

VanZante has been discharged from a Boise hospital where he was flown for treatment.

ONTARIO, OR - Oregon state troopers say a man driving a stolen car out of Pasco, Washington, attacked a commercial truck driver in eastern Oregon on Monday, stabbing the driver multiple times. Troopers say the truck driver, 63-year-old Charles VanZante of Jerome, Idaho, was flown to a Boise, Idaho, hospital where he was being treated for non life-threatening injuries. 

Police say the attacker rammed the truck's diesel tanks with a Buick LaCrosse while driving along Interstate 84 west of Ontario, Oregon. After VanZante stopped, the man got into the semi truck cab and started stabbing VanZante. 

Troopers have arrested the man for attempted murder and assault, but have not released the man's name or said if he is the same man involved in a car jacking near the Cable Bridge in Pasco from earlier Monday morning.
