Dust Devils Fall 8-1 to Hillsboro Hops

PASCO, WA - The Hillsboro Hops collected 14 hits on their way to an 8-1 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils Monday night at Gesa Stadium.  The Dust Devils (15-16 2nd half, 29-40 overall) struggled defensively, committing four errors in the game.


First baseman Sean Dwyer went 1-for-4 on the night and drove in the only run for Tri-City. Dwyer has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games with 15 hits and seven RBIs over that span.

Dust Devils starter Grahamm Wiest (1-3) went 2 2/3 innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits. He didn't allow a walk and had a strikeout in the game while taking the loss.

The Hops (21-10 2nd half, 43-26 overall) were led offensively by third baseman Pedro Ruiz and first baseman Kevin Cron. Ruiz went 3-for-4 on the night and had a pair of RBIs. Cron had a game-high three RBIs and went 1-for-4 with a double.

Starting pitcher Ben Eckels went two scoreless innings and gave up a hit and struck out a batter for the Hops. Reliever Scott Schultz (4-5) earned the win. Schultz allowed a run over six innings on four hits. He struck out 10 batters on the night.

The Dust Devils and Hops will play the second game of this five game series Tuesday night at Gesa Stadium. Righty Ryan Castellani will take the mound for the Dust Devils to square off with right-hander Markus Solbach for Hillsboro
