KHQ.com - Tuesday, August 26th is when we celebrate man's best friend! It's National Dog Day!

National Dog Day was created back in 2004, and it gives us a chance to stop and appreciate those who offer us their unconditional love, support, and acceptance: our pups!

I've had dogs my whole life, and if there is one thing to admire about them, it's that they live life in the moment. Everyday is the happiest day of their life. And even though I can't count how many times I've come home to find my favorite hat chewed up, or my garbage dumped over, it's hard to stay mad when you're greeted everyday at the door with such love, affection and excitement.

So even if you don't have a dog, you can still celebrate National Dog Day. Here are some ways according toNationalDogDay.com:

1.) Adopt a dog from your local shelter or purebred rescue organization. Visit the SCRAPS website or the Spokane Spokane Humane Society's Website for more information.

2.) Volunteer at your local shelter and offer to walk a dog or play with a dog, clean cages or anything else they need help with. Visit the SCRAPS website or the Spokane Humane Society's Website for more information.

3.) Have a safety check of your home to make sure it's safe for your dog and others.

4.) Donate blankets, food and toys to animal welfare organizations.

5.) Organize a peaceful demonstration in front of your community pet store that sells puppies.

6.) Write your Congressman and ask that he/she support the ban of Puppy Mills and Gas Chambers in your state.

7.) Order an adorable dog shaped flower arrangement from 1-800-Flowers.com and enjoy a 10 percent discount by using code DOG when placing your order!

8.) Have a National Dog Day party and invite all your friends and their dogs!

9.) Spend the day taking photos of your dog.Assist an ill or elderly neighbor by walking their dog.

10.) Buy your dog a fun new dog toy ... or two ... or five.

11.) Give your dog some fun exercise by taking him or her to a doggy play resort.

12.) Brush your dog to eliminate excess fur.

13.) Give your dog a massage or holistic spa treatment.

14.)Teach your dog a new trick.

15.) Buy your dog a fashionable collar and leash.

SPOKANE, Wash. - A few months ago, Spokane's favorite zombie show, Z Nation, asked if they could film an episode for the upcoming season in our studios.  Uh... DUH! How could we say no to the opportunity to turn our newsroom into the zombie apocalypse? Zombies still need their news, right?  It was a ton of fun and the kind folks over at Z Nation let us know the episode, 'We Interrupt This Program', air this Friday.
