While the football season starts on Saturday, the Montana state volleyball team will get things underway on Friday.
Friday night the lady Bobcats will travel to the University of Utah for a weekend tournament that starts with a match against the host Utes.
Last season the theme around the Bobcats volleyball team was youth.
A year ago the team starting rotation featured just one senior, two sophomores, and three freshmen.
"We're a lot more experienced,” said Head Coach Kyle Weindel. “We don't have four or five freshmen on the floor. The most we'll have I think is one at this point. So we're experienced. Although we're mostly sophomores and juniors, there is still that experience factor."
"This year has been a lot different than last year,” said senior Zoe Gogan. “Last year we hit a couple of bumps in the road. This year it seems like everyone is in it to win, have fun and become a team. So it's been fun."
Friday night the team will start a three match tournament in Utah.
Friday they will play the Utes and on Saturday they will meet New Mexico State and Missouri State.
"We're playing at a high level. It's just a matter of now we have to be a little bit more terminal,” Weindel said. “When we play teams like Utah and Missouri State, we're going to have to be able to end rallies. We can't give good teams second and third opportunities to kill it against us, because they will."
"We need to be able to put the ball away more,” said Gogan. “We are really working on hard keeping the ball in play a lot. It would be nice if we could really put the ball away."
With the team on the road to start the season, they're hoping to get off on the right foot.
"I'm looking for the desire to upset a team,” Weindel said. “We have an incredibly good, young team. We're still young, but we're starting to put things together and play some really high level volleyball."
