Roadblocks Removed for Snag Canyon Fire

Posted: Updated:
KITTITAS COUNTY, WA - The Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center says as of Friday morning, it has removed all county roadblocks and road closure signs for the Snag Canyon Fire north of Ellensburg.

The following roads are now back open to the public: Robbins Road and the Sun East development, Wilson Creek and Naneum Roads north of Charlton Road, Cooke Canyon Road, Colockum Road, and Reecer Creek Road north of Forest Service Road 3500.

Emergency management says the opening of these roads is in conjunction with the DNR's scheduled reopening of the Naneum State Forest at 8:00 Friday morning. The Forest Service also downsized its area closure earlier this week, but still has several road closures within Forest Service boundaries because of potential safety hazards associated with the aftermath of a wildfire.

If you go to these areas, emergency management wants to remind you to use caution, as firefighters may still be working in the area, and please comply with the current ban on campfires.

The DNR says the following following devices are permitted for use:

- Liquid gas stoves and propane stoves that do not use solid briquettes

- Camp stoves and lanterns with attached pressurized gas canisters

- Solid fuel and citronella candles in metal or glass containers

- Propane gas camp stoves.

If you have any questions, you can contact the Emergency Operations Center at 509-933-8305 or the DNR Southeast Region Office at 509-925-8510, or for daily updates on burn restrictions, call 1-800-323-BURN.
