Yakima Police Dog Passed Away Today

YAKIMA, WA.-   Retired police officer Bruce Rodgers told KNDO its been an emotional time since the department made the decision to put Brutus down.

Brutus has been part of the K-9 police force for the past 7 years and Rodgers told us he's been a part of his family since he was only 9 months old.

Brutus was diagnosed with a spinal tumor earlier this month and vets did what they could to prolong his life, but Rodgers and the department made the decision today to put him down.

It was difficult for Rodgers to hold back tears as he spoke about his  memories of Brutus, "I could write a book for everything he's done he was phenomenal. I'm not sure I can't pin point just one, its fun to think back on all that he's done."

Rodgers told us Brutus was one of the best in the k-9 force. He'd go anywhere and do anything to catch suspects, find evidence, and protect the officers around him.

Rodgers said from the first day he joined the force he knew he wanted to be a part of the k-9 program, and he couldn't have asked for a better partner or friend.
