Suspected gunman manages to elude police after hospital lockdown

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash.- A suspected gunman managed to elude police Friday night after a chase that took officers from the Rite Aid on N. Division to Holy Family Hospital on E. Rowan. It all started around 7:30pm Friday night, when police say a man was seen trying to steal items from the Rite Aid.

A loss prevention officer attempted to stop the man, but he took off, eventually ending up a few blocks east at Providence Holy Family Hospital. With nowhere else to go, the man ran into the hospital, saying he had a gun.

Police searched for him floor by floor, before determining he was not in the hospital anymore. Part of the hospital was sent into lockdown for a short time as police conducted their search.

The suspect is described as a Native American or Hispanic male. 5' 8"-5' 10". Wearing purple shirt, silver shorts. At some point may have removed purple shirt and is now in a white tank type of shirt.

Spokane police are now going through surveillance video at both Rite Aid and Providence Holy Family Hospital.

If you know anything you're asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
