KENNEWICK, WA - The Benton County Sheriff's Office said Sunday an inmate in the Benton County Jail was found unconscious with a bed sheet tied around his neck on Saturday.

Deputies said correction officers found Stephen L. Morgan, 26 during an hourly inmate welfare check.

Medics were immediately dispatched while correction officers and jail nurses provided medical assistance.

Morgan was then transported to Trios Medical Center where he died approximately six hours later.

Deputies said Morgan was booked into the Benton County Jail on August 27th by the Kennewick Police Department on local charges.

Deputies said Morgan did not disclose any history of depression or mental illness with his questioner at the time of his booking. He was being housed in a single occupant cell at the time he was found.
