RICHLAND, WA - Wednesday at a public meeting, retiring Congressman Doc Hastings stood with fellow Republican Dan Newhouse and endorsed him to fill the seat of U.S. Representative for Washington's 4th District.

Journalists and members of the public gathered at the Richland Community Center for the announcement.

Coming out of the primaries, Newhouse had the second most votes in the 4th District behind Clint Didier. When asked why he's making the endorsement Hastings explained that Newhouse had asked him for the support a couple months ago. Now that there are only two candidates remaining, Doc explained he believes Newhouse will represent what he has stood for and what he believes the voters stand for.

"I think Doc sees me as someone that's looking to find solutions. Someone that's not afraid to work with anybody. If there's a good idea on the table, to find solutions to these critical issues that we face as a nation," said Newhouse.

Clint Didier's campaign responded in a news release stating he never asked for Hasting's endorsement. He claims as he continues to run a grassroots campaign he expected republicans to pressure “career politician” Hastings into endorsing “their guy”.
