Candidates For Yakima Sheriff and Prosecutor Speak At Public Forum

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- There are two candidates running for the Yakima County Sheriff position and two candidates running for the Yakima County Prosecutor position. All four will discuss their platforms Monday in the forum at the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce "General Membership Luncheon."

The candidates for sheriff are the current Yakima County Sheriff Lieutenant Brian Winter and Ellensburg Police Captain Jim Keightly.

In the primary Winter took nearly half of the vote, leading Keightly by about 6,000 votes.

The two are hoping to replace Sheriff Ken Irwin, who plans to retire at the end of the year.

In the race for the Yakima County Prosecutor Troy Clements and Joe Brusic hope to replace Jim Hagarty. Hagarty does not plan to seek re-election.

Clements founded the prosecutor's office gang unit and has been supervising it for the past five years. Joe Brusic is a local attorney.

The forum is open to the public and it's from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday afternoon at the Red Lion on Yakima Avenue.
