YAKIMA, WA. -- La Salle High School celebrated the opening of their brand new gym Thursday. The gym took $5 million and one year to build. Officials from La Salle High School claim it's the first new Catholic high school gym in the Yakima Valley in the last 100 years.

President of La Salle High School says he can't wait to see it in action.

"There's been a tremendous amount of excitement," Tim McGree said. "This afternoon now our volleyball team will finally get to use it to practice in and we'll have games this weekend. So this is just a tremendously exciting day for us."

The gym is named Cardinal Francis George Gymnasium after Cardinal George, who helped to open La Salle High School when he was a Bishop in Yakima.
