Five People Injured in Two Car Accident on SR 397 near Kennewick Saturday

BENTON COUNTY, WA - The Washington State Patrol say five people were injured in a two car accident Saturday evening on SR 397 near Yew St. Just south of Kennewick.

Troopers say Jeanneanne Roberts, 39 was driving a white van northbound on SR 397. Benjamin Rowell, 39 was in the passenger seat. 

According to WSP, the white van crossed the center line into the southbound lane. At the same time, an oncoming Dodge pickup truck in the southbound lane swerved into the northbound lane to avoid the van, but then the driver of the van corrected back into the northbound lane and they collided. 

The driver of the Dodge pickup, Efren Birrueta Mendoza, 39 along with passengers Luis Birrueta Guerrero, 62 were injured and transported to Trios Health. Diego Birrueta, 8 was transported to Spokane Children's Hospital after being treated at Trios Health.  

The passenger in the white van, Benjamin Rowell was airlifted in serious condition to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle while the driver, Jeanneanne Roberts was transported to Trios Health.

WSP says everyone involved were wearing their seatbelts. 

Troopers tell us a man has been airlifted to an area hospital and a woman has been taken by ambulance after a two car accident on SR 379 and Yew St. The man and the woman were in a white van. 

We're told both are in critical condition. 

Troopers tell us the two cars collided when one crossed over the median. 

The three people in the truck were also injured and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. DOT will have SR 397 blocked off in both directions for the next several hours.
