BENTON COUNTY, WA- A car hit a man on a bicycle Monday in Kennewick around noon on the 5500 block of West Umatilla Avenue.

The man driving the car backed out of his driveway but didn't notice the man on the bicycle riding.

He  knocked the cyclist and his bike to the ground and the impact from the accident caused the car's back windshield to shatter.

Officials said drivers should be more careful because a lot of cyclists and pedestrians are out.

“There's a lot of them out on the streets.  We need to be looking both ways and for those out riding their bikes, please wear a helmet and this cyclist was wearing a helmet,” said Eric Nilson, EMS Officer for Kennewick Fire Department.

The cyclist was taken to Trios Emergency Room.  He had significant trauma injuries, but was in stable condition.

No charges have been filed at this time and the accident is still under investigation.
