NBCRightNow.com - There is a new push to preserve natural habitat and create access to recreation spaces in Benton County.

Proposition 14-7 will appear on the November ballot.

It is a citizen advisory initiative that would allow the county to buy open space and farm land in an effort to protect recreational and wildlife areas.

If the measure passes, it would cost the average homeowner in the county $12 a year for the next ten years.

"This would help attract money from all the proposals that are out there from different sources. right now that money's going to the other 13 counties in the State of Washington that have this kind of fund. we of course want some of that money to come here." said Sharon Grant, Proposition 14-7 Supporter.

Supporters say the proposal would would raise almost one million dollars a year.

It needs a majority vote in November to pass.

However it is just an advisory vote which means the county commissioners would have to approve the measure and finalize it.
