A Shooting Wednesday Night Injures One And Puts Four Gang Members Behind Bars

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- Wednesday night Yakima police received a call that shots were fired on West Lincoln behind HY's Minimart.

Yakima police told KNDO that around two in the morning, five people suspected to be in gangs, were in the middle of making a drug deal, when trouble broke out.

Police have four people in custody for shooting a twenty two year old Hispanic man after he tried to purchase drugs.

“Someone in the suspect vehicle noticed or recognized one of the persons in the victims vehicle and shots were fired and one person was hit,” police spokesperson, Mike Bastinelli told KNDO.

The victim was taken to a near by hospital, and shortly after police found the suspects close to where the shots were fired.

They arrested two females and two males. They believe 19-year-old Mario Alberto Peraza fired the shots that hit the victim's stomach and ankle.

Police say they're cracking down on gang related incidents and this summer has been very quiet compared to previous years.

“They're actually making a dent. I think the prosecutor has really been actively prosecuting people that are involved with gang related crimes,” Bastinelli told us.

The YPD have increased gang unit patrol, and cracked down on harder more serious sentencing for people involved in gang related incidents.

The shooting is still under investigation, as they piece together the relationship between these gang members.

If you have any information on this case you are encouraged to contact the Yakima Police Department.
