KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans (1-1-0-0, 2 pts) were looking for a bounce back game following an opening night loss, and they delivered. The Americans handed the Prince George Cougars (1-1-0-0, 2 pts) its first loss of the season in tremendous fashion, 7-0, at the Toyota Center Sunday night.

Tri-City came out of the gates hot and peppered Prince George goaltender Ty Edmonds early. The Americans broke through 6:17 into the first on the power play. Brian Williams fed Parker Bowles in front of the net, one-timing a shot into the goal to take a 1-0 lead. With the momentum on the Americans side, they continued to play well and scored again 12:41 into the period. Beau McCue exited the penalty box and skated towards the net, with Jackson Playfair feeding a pass through traffic onto the stick of McCue, tapping the puck into the goal for a 2-0 lead. The Americans still weren't done in the first period. A 4-on-3 power play gave the Americans a great chance, and Parker Wotherspoon fired a shot over the glove of the goaltender to increase the lead to 3-0 after one period.

In the second period, Tri-City found more success on the power play to score 21 seconds into the period. Wotherspoon fired a shot from the point that was tipped into the net by Lucas Nickles to make it 4-0 Americans. Brian Williams got in on the scoring 5:58 into the second, as he scored on the power play to increase the lead to 5-0. Less than a minute later, Ty Comrie showed off his speed and puck-handling, winding through the Prince George defense and beating the goaltender to light the lamp on a beautiful play to make it 6-0. Williams decided one wasn't enough, so he added a second goal midway through the second, making it 7-0 after two periods.

The third period was quiet, in terms of scoring. Neither team was able to get on the board, but the tension mounted in the period, resulting in a few scraps between the two teams. Tri-City outshot Prince George 13-7 in the period to cruise to the big win.

There were 11 Americans that contributed points, including Justin Hamonic, Brandon Carlo, Wotherspoon, Bowles and Williams all recording multi-point games.

This game did not lack physical play to go along with some penalties, with the teams combining for 124 penalty minutes, including 54 Tri-City penalty minutes. The Americans were great on the power play Sunday, going 5-for-10 with at least a man advantage.

Evan Sarthou made 14 saves in the shutout win, his first career WHL shutout. Ty Edmonds and Tavin Garth combined for 31 saves for Prince George in the loss.

Tri-City will have some time off before it plays again, taking on the Seattle Thunderbirds (1-1-0-0, 2 pts) Friday, Sept. 26, at 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center to conclude the opening week home stand. Seattle lost its most recent game, 1-0, to the Everett Silvertips on Sept. 20.
