Yakima Family's New Home Devastated By Fire

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- A Yakima family has been forced out of their new home after a fire ripped through their garage and living room. Firefighters are still trying to determine how the fire started.

The family who lives on Occidental Road wasn't even there when the fire started. They were out of town and unfortunately they will have to come home to this devastation.

The suspicious part of Monday's early morning fire is simply that the fire started outside the home, according to the Yakima Fire Department.

Since the family was not even in town, it begs the question, how did the fire start? The fire department is still investigating that. To be clear, the fire department has not officially ruled this fire as suspicious.

I talked with several neighbors who saw the intense flames Monday morning.

"I saw flames higher than the sky," Vaughn Burns said. "I'll tell ya, there were so humongous I couldn't believe it."

"Anybody that has a fire you feel bad for them," Joe Batali said. "Fortunately I've never been in one but what a fire does to a home and a family,. it's just impossible to replace."

One of the worst parts of this fire is that neighbors say the people that lived here had moved in less than a year ago. While neighbors didn't know the man well, they did say they think he works as a truck driver and possibly has a family with a few children since they would often hear kids playing in the pool.

Overall, it's a terrible thing to see this family lose three cars and practically their entire home.
