Drones have been cleared for takeoff from a test range in Pendleton.

Peak three says the Pendleton facility received a letter of approval from Pan Pacific UAS test range complex to begin drone flights.

Peak three is the company that contracts with the city of Pendleton to develop and manage its test range at the eastern Oregon regional airport.

Pan pacific is headquarters are at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, which oversees test sites in Alaska, Hawaii and Oregon.

The tests will send up a quadcopter that weighs about three pounds with a range of nearly two miles.

There is no word when the first tests would start.
