Central Washington State Fair Attendance Up This Year

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- The Central Washington State Fair always draws in hundreds of thousands of people from around the region. But last year, attendance was actually down.

There's a lot of smiles at the Central Washington State Fair this year and you can't help but smile at the fair. This year there are many more of those smiles than there were at this point last year.

As of Monday, 144,000 people had enjoyed the fair's countless attractions. That's nearly 30 thousand more than at the same point a year ago. The weather has been much better this year, allowing people to ditch last year's umbrellas. But fair officials think it's more than just good weather that's drawing crowds.

"We're up around 21% sitting right at 144,000," Greg Stewart, President of the Central Washington State Fair said. "This good weather, new attractions and good things to eat are bringing them out. We're very pleased."

Greg also tells us this has been one of the safest fairs yet. The police haven't reported a single incident so far and despite earlier reports on Facebook of someone being injured on a fair ride, they say that never happened.

Come on down, try some tasty treats and put a smile on your face. Thousands of other people already have.
