Jose Aguilar Sentenced For Raping & Killing Baby Girl

Posted: Updated:
UPDATE: The final sentencing will put Jose Aguilar behind bars for life. A judge determined Wednesday that after 40 years his case will be reviewed.

Family members including the baby's father and grandmother were given a chance to speak and explain how the murder has affected their lives. After the sentencing they explained to us that they tried to not let seeing Aguilar in person affect them.

"To me it feels like I'm giving him something for me to suffer too. I gave it to god and now it's between him and god," said James Reedy, Serenity's father.

Serenity's grandmother held a photo of the baby as she spoke today in court.

At one point in his statement Aguilar claimed, "I won't make excuses."

PREVIOUS/KENNEWICK, Wa. - A Benton County judge plans on sentencing Jose Aguilar on Wednesday for raping and killing his girlfriend's 9-month-old baby in June 2013.

Aguilar pleaded guilty to first-degree rape of a child and second-degree murder in the death of Serenity Jade Reedy.

Prosecutor's say Aguilar left the state when the baby's mother found the baby girl dead in her crib. He was arrested in California a short time after fleeing.

Aguilar faces a minimum of 40 years in prison but prosecutors have recommended he spend life behind bars.
