Kennewick School Board Discusses New Bond for February Election

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - The Kennewick School Board is planning on putting a multi-million dollar bond on the February ballot.

Right now there are 119 portable classrooms being used through out the district and the last time a middle school was built was back in 1993.

The $85 to $90 million bond should go toward some much needed improvements at some schools and will ease the overcrowding at others.

Superintendent Dave Bond says the money would build two new schools in the fast growing South Kennewick area, would replace Desert Hills Middle School and Westgate Elementary School and build another elementary school within the district.

The school board will decide on the bond soon and will put it up for a vote in the February election.

Bonds need a super majority of 60% to pass.
