(Update)  The Pasco Police Officer involved in this morning shooting incident is Officer Tony Haworth.   Tony has been an officer for the City of Pasco since July of 2012.   Prior to him beginning his service with the department he was a Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy for six years.  The officer has a total of eight years of law enforcement service.   (End)

At approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning Pasco Officers observed a stolen vehicle traveling on Lewis Street.   The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the week.   An officer stopped the vehicle between the 5th and 6th Streets on Lewis.

The driver of the vehicle fled on foot from the scene while the passenger of the vehicle was detained.  During the course of searching for the driver of the stolen vehicle, a Pasco Officer encountered the individual in the parking lot of a mechanics shop on the corner of 6th and Lewis.   The suspect displayed a weapon when the officer encountered him.   The officer fired at the suspect injuring him.

The individual was transported from the scene by ambulance to an area hospital, where he later died.   The Special Investigations Unit has been activated and is investigating the incident.

The name of the deceased will be released by the Franklin County Coroner.   The officer's name involved in the incident will be released at a later date.
