Selah Plans New Park Project

Posted: Updated:
SELAH, WA.- There are parks and recreational areas scattered all over The Yakima Valley, but the city of Selah decided to do something a little different with their new park project proposal.

The Selah Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of creating an all-inclusive park.

The park will be near housing developments and within walking distance of schools, but what makes this park so special is it's ability to cater to all types of people.

“It's going to be an all inclusive park, so every aspect of the park will be able to be used by those with disabilities and those without, so that children with disabilities can play right along side those without,” Parks Manager, Charlie Brown, told KNDO.

The park will include new playground equipment, wheelchair friendly sidewalks, restrooms, and picnic tables, as well as a fence around the park to keep it more secure.

$300,000 of the $750,000 budget for the project has already been donated and they are working towards securing state funding.

Brown say this isn't a done deal, but they just found out that their proposal ranked fourth out of seventy proposals for state funding.

He says they are excited and confident about moving forward with the project.
