Last Day Of The Central Washington State Fair

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- Sunday marked the last day of the Central Washington State Fair, but people were still flooding through the gates, enjoying the food, rides, and animal attractions.

Fair organizers told us the rainy weather early this week had them concerned that fair attendance might be down again this year, but the sunshine over the weekend made up for the bad weather.

“We had a big day yesterday, we had almost 56,000 people in one day that's pretty close to an all time record for us,” fair spokesperson Rob Phillips told KNDO.

Phillips said they're expecting to have had over 300,000 people walk through the gates over the course of the fair.

That will raise attendance up by 13% from last year.

Fair food is always a big hit and Phillips told us they sell thousands of corn dogs, and it could very well be their biggest seller this year.

Vendors started closing up shop around nine, but the rides remained open till eleven, but in the morning you won't even be able to tell the fair had been here.

“They'll start tearing down tonight and when you drive by tomorrow you wont even know a fair was here its that dramatic,” Phillips said.

Phillips says they're already planning for next year; the 2015 fair will be September 25th through October 4th.

He said they even have a new theme in the works, but he's not giving that secret away just yet.
