KENNEWICK, WA - Apple has made it much easier for first responders to care for you in an emergency situation. Apple iPhone iOS 8, the newest software update, can now hold your medical information and make it easily accessible for those who want to help.
Once you've upgraded to IOS 8, the app arrives on your home screen and takes you through a series of medical related categories.
The Kennewick Fire Department gave us an inside look at how they record and access your information if you're unable to respond. Eric Nilson was one of those medics who explored the newest tech advancement Tuesday.
“We all need to think of those instances in which we may not be able to speak for ourselves, so in my opinion I don't care if it's a medical alert bracelet, a file of life, a medication list in their purse or wallet... or on their phone. Take the time to put your information down, especially when you have significant medical problems so that we can access that information and take that much better care of you” Nilson explained.
“Medical ID” also gives you an option to make your information viewable in the settings tab, even if your phone has a lock code.
