Elderly Couple Beaten After Two Robbers Break Into Their Home

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- It was a frightening morning on Wednesday for an elderly Yakima couple who were attacked inside their home.

Around six Wednesday morning a couple living in a mobile home park on West Washington Avenue heard a knock on their door.

When they answered it, two armed men burst through the door demanding money and jewelry.

The intruders tied the man up, while the woman jumped through a window to try to get help.

The men followed her outside and beat her, breaking her jaw.

The men then left the scene, but the woman was able to get the license plate number of their van.

KNDO spoke with a neighbor who says she's had people knock on her door before and now she's taking steps to stay safe.

“We are taking more safety precautions, my mom has a service dog now, because we've had people knock at our door who didn't belong in the park asking for money, like little kids and adults,” Renita Welch told us.

Welch has also installed a security camera and more lighting outside her home.

After police arrived, they were able to locate and arrest the suspects, at a home in Union Gap.

The men will be charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The female victim is currently at a local hospital, where she was scheduled to have surgery this Wednesday morning.
