Coats for Kids Drive Underway in Tri-Cities

The weather may be nice right now but it will start getting colder soon.That means thousands of kids in our communities will need to stay warm and our annual Coats for Kids drive is officially underway to help. KENNEWICK, WA - The weather may be nice right now but it will start getting colder soon.

That means thousands of kids in our communities will need to stay warm and our annual Coats for Kids drive is officially underway to help.

There are so many kids out in the community in need of warm coats. To help, just stop by one of several locations around the Tri-Cities with blue bins to drop off your donation. 

The coats for kids drive collects coats for local children in need.

Last year the Salvation Army in Pasco gave away more than 3,000 coats and now they are pretty much starting from scratch, so they need your help.

"We are very very in desperate need of the childrens' coats, the heavy coats not light weight, no hoodies, not meaning we won't take them as a donation but since winter is coming we are needing those heavy winter coats for the children," said Anet Medina, Salvation Army. 

NBC Right Now do want to emphasize the need for heavy coats, it does get really cold out there and light jackets and hoodies are not enough.

Local schools also take part in the coat drive, but you can donate at several locations around the Tri-Cities.
