JUST ASK SHANE: Update on New Movie Theater Multiplex in Richland

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - If you're wondering when the Tri-Cities will get a new, multi-screen movie theater, you're not alone.  Chuck sent me an email asking, "There was a lot of news coverage last year about Fairchild Cinemas opening a new theater in Richland by Queensgate.  Whatever happened to this project?"

I spoke with Jeff Fairchild this week who owns the Fairchild Cinemas in Pasco.  He says their plans for a new theater in Richland are still moving forward.  They've had a few issues come up over the last year that they've worked through, and he says they should be closing on the property in the next 30 days.

The new theater would be located on a piece of land behind Gold's Gym and Home Depot in the Queensgate area.  Fairchild says they're excited about expanding their operations.

"Just the amount of growth going on in the area, and the accessibility to the area from all of the surrounding people there.  It's a great location," Fairchild added.

Fairchild says the new 12-screen multi-plex will be a little bigger than their Pasco location, with 60-foot screens and Atmos sound systems in the two large theaters.  They're hoping to start construction either late this fall or early next year.  They hope to open up the new theater sometime next summer.
