RICHLAND,WA-  Saturday the Sweater Weather Fashions went to the trees for the Urban Forest Art Installation at Howard Amon Park.

Knitters from around the Tri-Cities wrapped nearly 50 trees with knitted and crocheted patterns made of yarn that was mostly donated by the community.

Organizers said it was a good way to reach a different crowd.

“We try to have very diverse programming, something for everyone.  I have to admit, this is a little different, but boy it has sure brought a wonderful group of people out and got them involved and we're thrilled,” said Laurel Strand, Recreation Manager for Richland Parks and Recreation.

This was the first year for the Sweater Weather project.  Richland Parks and Recreation officials said they wanted to encourage community pride.

The trees will stay decorated throughout the month of October.
