KENNEWICK, WA- It had been 41 years since a mother and daughter have seen each other and that dream came true Saturday.

Debra Powers and Christin Hollcroft were separated by a forced adoption when Hollcroft was just a baby. She said she had been looking for her mother for many years and she finally found her after a new adoption law was passed that said all adoptees 18 years and older could get their original birth certificates.

When Hollcroft heard about this, she immediately obtained her original birth certificate and jumped at the chance to find her mother. Hollcroft was excited to meet her mother.

“It's been like a roller coaster.  It's like I have moments where I'm just like ‘is this really real?' I kept saying to my husband on the drive over here, I was like, ‘this is happening, this is really happening.'  The thing that I daydreamed about my entire life is now.  It's happening,” said Hollcroft.

The two never knew they lived so close for all these years.  They both lived in Washington and the daughter even attended schools her mother's family attended.

For more information on the law, visit the Washington State Department of Health's website at www.doh.gov and click on the licenses, permits, and certificates tab.
