Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- The City of Yakima unveiled the final design plans for the downtown master plaza at a public hearing Monday night.

The plan includes a shaded structure for some parking spaces, water features for children to play in, shaded areas as well as multi-purposed event space for concerts and farmers markets.

Overall, the design team received very positive reviews from the people in attendance.

"They've done a wonderful job of mitigating all of the potential problems that everybody was worried about," one man said. "I think it's a great plan."

"It's been a really good process," Designer Kathryn Gustafson said. "It's been really interesting. People have been very good at coming forward, telling us what they think, telling us their concerns."

The final design plans will now go up for a final vote in front of the Yakima City Council Tuesday. After that, the city will begin fundraising for the project.
