Semi-Truck Spills on Interstate 84 to Avoid Group of Deer

ARLINGTON, OR - Oregon State Police are investigating a rollover crash that spilled potatoes along part of Interstate 84 west of Arlington.

Police say the semi-truck driver explained he swerved to miss several dear who were on the roadway, and lost control. The truck and trailer crashed into the guardrail and overturned, spilling its load of potatoes onto the shoulder. The accident damaged more than 200 feet of guardrail, and blocked the right eastbound lane of the interstate.

As a precaution, paramedics took the truck driver to the hospital for a medical evaluation, although he didn't appear to be injured.

Troopers say they didn't find any injured or dead deer in the area, but Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation say this is a reminder for drivers to be alert for wildlife or or near roads for this time of year. October and November are the two busiest months for vehicle-wildlife collisions.
