KENNEWICK, WA -Dennis Nichols has been fighting a battle that hits too close to home. NBC Right Now spoke with him Tuesday about his journey this past year and how he stays strong throughout this disease that affects one in every one hundred men.

Dennis' mother fought for thirty-five years and lost her life to breast cancer. This past year Dennis checked with his doctor after he found a lump while taking a shower. He was diagnosed and then had a full mastectomy within weeks. Although radiation depleted his energy, he often thought of his mom.

He said "I'd call her everyday to say hi, how are ya… and everyday she would tell me, I think I'm getting a little better. For a year and a half, that went on everyday. February of this year, I was taking a shower and felt a lump on my right breast, not thinking anything of it really."

Dennis had finished radiation this summer and is now on daily hormones. His rate of beating the cancer is around 90%. He hopes his story helps someone else. Throughout this continuous battle, his wife of 44 years has always been his rock and the Tri-Cities Cancer Center doctors have become his friends.
