RICHLAND, WA - Five local gymnasts are headed out to the Karoyli Ranch in Texas on Thursday for a rare experience most gymnasts only dream of.

Tirzah Wise, Makala Santos, Ella Bettineski, Anna Sonnichsen and Jenna Lee from Mid Columbia Gymnastics in Richland are heading to TOP's training in hopes to someday advance onto the National Team. Most of these girls have been training the majority of their life for this moment.

“TOP's” is held at USA Gymnastics Olympic Women's Training Center in Texas. 300 gymnasts nationwide are chosen for this opportunity. There are 100 eight year olds, 100 nine year olds and 100 ten year olds that attend.

Mid Columbia has sent girls to TOP's in years before but has never sent five at the same time. About 1/3 of the competitors that attend this weekend will hope to make it through the weekends rigorous testing. From there, training for the national team begins. Todd Sawyer, the girl's gymnastics coach, says the girls practice around twenty hours a week and have dedicated most of their time for moments like this.
