Pendleton Inmate Shooting Update

Posted: Updated:
A prosecutor in eastern Oregon is trying to decide whether a grand jury should look into the shooting of a state prison inmate by a guard.

Umatilla county district attorney Dan Primus will have to determine whether revealing the guard's name creates a security risk at the prison.

The corrections officer shot 26-year-old Jayson Matthew Withers in August at the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution.

Investigators said withers and another inmate were attacking a third prisoner.

The prosecutor says he's finishing a review of the investigation.
