UPDATE: Naches High School Student in Juvey for Plot to Kill 3 Classmates

Posted: Updated:

NACHES, WA. -- Deputies avoided a scary situation this week and arrested a Naches High School student for allegedly plotting to shoot and kill three other students.

Deputies say they got a tip that a 14-year-old student was planning to shoot and kill three classmates.

The caller told the Sheriff's Department about the student's plan to shoot three other students. Sheriff's deputies immediately went to the student's house to investigate. There they arrested the student and found a "detailed plan" to shoot three of his classmates.

Yakima County Sheriff's spokesperson Mike Russell says his department takes any suspected school shooting extremely seriously.

"This really is a whisper away from our own school shooting," Russell said. "And nobody wants to have to go through that. It causes great alarm that these kinds of things are taken place in our area, in our neighborhood. But we just do all we can to try to be vigilant and keep everyone safe."

The sheriff's department did not reveal where or when the student planned to carry out the shooting. We don't know if this would have been a school shooting or if it would have happened off school grounds.

We also do not know why the student wanted to shoot his classmates. What we do know is the sheriff's department believed that this student could have carried out his plan if sheriff deputies had not intervened.
