KENNEWICK, WA- Sunday President Obama asked that American flags be lowered in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

107 fallen firefighters were added to that memorial this year.

Local firefighters wanted people to reflect on the fallen heroes that died while serving their citizens.

A local Kennewick fire station used this day to remember one of their own fallen heroes, Eric Lyons.

Some of the firefighters even traveled to Colorado Springs to show honor.

“It's kind of near and dear to our hearts because we're firefighters and we remember that there's firefighters everywhere that lose their lives in the service of their profession,” said Acting Captain Ray Ransier.

Flags at all federal office buildings were lowered Sunday right after National Fire Prevention Week ended.

This year was the 33rd year for the memorial and it was in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
